I've scoured the internet the last few weeks and found as many sub-A$/2m VPSes as I can. Here's the list I came up with:
By the time you read this, a couple of those providers have probably closed down and taken the servers with them. That's the risk you take when buying these cheap VPSes!
The VPSes below are NAT VPSes. You don't get a unique IPV4 address as the service is behind NAT. They usually give you 12-20 ports spare to play with. They're cheaper because they don't have to pay for an IP address, a big chunk of the cost of offering a VPS at this price point.
I found them mostly via LowEndBox & LowEndSpirit, as well as Server Hunter & LowEndStock. Some are promos that are no longer available, but most are still up for grabs.
What am I doing with all these servers? Running the ArchiveTeam Warrior. It's a Docker container that grabs stuff off the internet for archival on the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. Right now there's a project to collect a bunch of material off Imgur before they delete a bunch of old stuff.
Many of the sites being archived place rate limits on IP addresses, so by having multiple IP addresses, I can suck down more data than on my home internet connection alone. The ArchiveTeam Warrior container is relatively light and runs on basically any machine with more than 256MB of RAM (barely - 512MB is better!).
All these servers cost me just under $30/m - on average A$1.50 a month each. I consider it a small donation considering the amazing usefulness of the Wayback Machine!
They can also be used for other stuff, I'll add to this thread later when I have more time.
If you spot any VPSes for under A$2/month, let me know so I can add them to my collection :)
